The Inuit Willow Blade designed by master sea kayaker, Derek Hutchinson. This is a rediscovery of the original willow leaf shape used by the Kotzibue and Nootak Inuit kayak hunters. Available in Semi Carbon or Full Carbon constructions on a choice of shafts.
“After many years of trial and error, I finally discovered the basic secrets which make the modern Toksook blade unique. The critical factors are the angle of the end of the leaf, the variable width throughout the blades’s length and
the planing surface. I have personally tested
the Toksook in 120 mph winds under the blades of a hovering Sea King helicopter. The high dihedral spine successfully reduced the influence of the hurricane force winds on the paddle. In the strongest blasts the paddle is contollable whilst other blades are blown through the air. Unlike other blades, no torque or twist is felt on the paddle shaft when the first pressure is put on the blade. By slowing down the escape of water from the blade face, the raised spine allows for an increase in water pressure while preventing any tendency to flutter.”
